The Secret to the Perfect (and Safest!) Burn

The Secret to the Perfect (and Safest!) Burn

So, you’ve got your Star Scents order, the house smells amazing, and you’re ready to relax. But before you light that tea light, let’s have a quick chat about how to get the most out of your melts without any "oops" moments.

I want you to have the best experience possible, so here are my top tips for a safe, long-lasting scent.

1. The 4-Hour Rule (This is a big one!)

It’s tempting to pop in an 8-hour tea light so the scent lasts all night, but please don't! Standard wax burners are designed for 4-hour tea lights. The "extra-long" ones make the burner get way too hot. This can actually "flash off" the fragrance oil too fast (meaning your scent won't last as long) or, worse, it can cause your burner to crack. Stick to the 4-hour ones - your burner will thank you!

2. Check for "Stress Lines"

Every now and then, give your burner a quick once-over. If you see any tiny cracks or "crazing" in the dish, it’s time for a new one. Using a damaged burner is a fire risk, and nobody wants wax leaking onto their sideboard!

3. Location, Location, Location

Keep your burner on a flat, heat-resistant surface away from:

  • Draughts: A flickering flame is an unhappy (and unsafe) flame.

  • Curtains: Keep it well away from anything flammable.

  • Little Hands & Paws: We love our pets and kids, but wax burners and wagging tails don't mix!

4. Changing your wax

When the scent finally starts to fade (usually after about 8 -12 hours for our stars!), don’t try to scrape the cold wax out with a knife, as you’ll scratch your burner.

Pro Tip: Light a tea light for about 30 seconds until the bottom of the wax just starts to melt, then give it a gentle nudge. The whole puck should slide right out!

Why do I nag?

I know it sounds like a lot of "don'ts," but I want you to enjoy your Star Scents goodies with total peace of mind. A safe burn is a happy burn!
